This October episode of “Caregiving Club On Air” we start with a wonderful interview with one of the “sharks” from TV’s “Shark Tank” – Barbara Corcoran. But she is not here to talk about business investment, rather she talks to Sherri about her personal caregiving journey with her mom, Florence, who had Alzheimer’s which led to her mission to help educate people about Alzheimer’s and especially the episodes of agitation that are typical of dementia adults.

She is helping bring attention to the new educational campaign, RecognizeAlzheimersAgitation.com.

Caregiver Wellness News

For CAREGIVER WELLNESS NEWS, Sherri shares the latest research and insights from her book, Me Time Monday, for National Positive Attitude Month and National Gratitude Month and explains why optimists live longer than pessimists.

She also shares the latest data from a research report by Bank of America on “Cognitive Impairment in the Workplace.” This data, whose co-author Cynthia Hutchins we had on our podcast in Season 3 (see below for details), highlights both how to adapt workplaces for those older employees with early-stage dementia and how to create dementia-friendly workplaces for the caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s.

Sherri also talks about National Train Your Brain Day on Oct 13 and more info from her book on how to cross-train your brain in 7 minutes or less news. And check out our Season 2 interview with Henry Mahnke – CEO of Posit Science and brainHQ, whose science-based brain exercises were showcased in Sherri’s book.

You can also check out her recent “Self Care in 7 Minutes” videos on The Power of Positivity and How to Cross-Train Your Brain:

You can check out our podcast interviews with Cynthia Hutchins of Bank of America on financial resilience for caregivers and Henry Mahncke of Posit Science and brainHQ on why brain exercises are so crucial for healthy aging.

Pop Culture

For our POP CULTURE segment, Sherri relives her childhood with one of her favorite TV commercials which relates to National Smile Day Oct 4 and National Train Your Brain Day because singing is a full brain workout. Watch and see if this brings a smile to your face!

Special Alzheimer’s Family Caregiver Interview

In our September Ep 45 we spoke to Stephen Popovich of Theora Care who shared a story about how the Theora Connect smartwatch helped find and save a man in Detroit. As a special bonus for this episode, Sherri spoke to Delores Stone, wife of Tom who has Alzheimer’s and who were the Detroit couple Steve mentioned. Delores shares her dementia caregiving challenges and tells us about that fateful day when Tom wandered off. As Delores says in this episode, “That watch saved his life.” This is an interview you will won’t want to miss!

Well Home Design News

In WELL HOME DESIGN NEWS, Sherri talks about the latest updates for senior transportation for October’s National Rideshare Month – especially a new Caregiver App from UberHealth for free rides.
