WORK-FAMILY MONTH WITH JILL MCNAMARA – CARE.COM; SPIRITUAL WELLNESS WITH ATTORNEY/AUTHOR/CAREGIVER CHANEL T. ROWE, Esq.; Brain Economy & Brainspan; Ageism & Chief Longevity Officers in the Workplace; Zombie Cells, Cog Fog & Blue Methylene; Long Term Care Planning for Solo Agers
In our 2nd October episode we focus on National Work-Family Month and also National Emotional Wellness Month. Host and gerontologist, Sherri Snelling, has two great expert interviews for this episode:
- (26:07) Jill McNamara – General Manager for Senior Care, Care.com
Jill McNamara leads the Senior Care team for Care.com, where families can find professional caregivers for those they love across the lifespan: children, senior loved ones and even pets! In addition, Care.com has a Care for Business unit that provides vital caregiving services and benefits to employers to support the 1 in 3 employees who are caring for loved ones (1 in 5 employees care for an adult or older loved one). Jill shares the results of two surveys that Care for Business does annually reviewing the trends and changes and needs within workplaces for employees who are juggling caregiving by interviewing both the employers and the employees to also review where there may be gaps in care support. She also has BREAKING NEWS for our podcast (!) where she shares a new service just added to Care.com solutions that is the #1 request most caregivers have – care navigation! Listen and learn more. (You can also check out my recent article on caregiving workplace trends for Care for Business below).

2. (53:02) Chanel T. Rowe, Esq. – attorney, speaker, coach, caregiver and author, “Finding Balance: A Devotional to Help Caregivers Move From Suffering to Strength.”
Chanel T. Rowe is an award-winning attorney, dynamic speaker, and leadership strategist who has steered Fortune 50 pharmaceutical companies and high-growth FinTech startups through some of the most complex legal and regulatory challenges of our time. Her distinguished career spans Senior Counsel at Johnson & Johnson, high-impact enforcement work at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and influential roles in BigLaw and the C-suite. While navigating a high-powered career, Chanel also is a caregiver to her mother, who has a rare disease, making navigating the fragmented health care world even more challenging.
Chanel and Sherri discuss her caregiving journey which is the basis for her new book, “Finding Balance,” and how a strong spiritual foundation can help with so many caregiver emotional challenges. She also talks about juggling career and caregiving and her tips to help other caregivers just breathe – how to keep calm and carry on!

Caregiver Wellness News

(4:37) – For CAREGIVER WELLNESS NEWS, Sherri focuses on National Work-Family Month with trends in the workplace that include caregiving. One of these trends that focuses on caregiver wellness in the workplace is the new brain health or “brainspan” programs that are trending as the newest emotional health services employers are using. Sherri shares details of one company’s success in improving employee wellness and productivity including the CEO!
Sherri also sheds light on Ageism Awareness Day (October 9). What is ageism and what does it mean for employers and employees? Sherri also provides insights into a new role for employers – a growing new trend in hiring Chief Longevity Officers or Chief Gerontology Officers and how this will change not just workplaces but products, services, communities and home life.
And part of our Halloween Hacks for Caregivers (see video below) includes two topics Sherri discusses on the podcast: Cog Fog (and the debate on blue methylene for brain health) and Zombie Cells! Don’t be scared – Sherri will help you combat these caregiver issues!

Well Home Design News
(1:29:41) – In WELL HOME DESIGN NEWS, Sherri talks about a new study showing couples who live together have a stronger mental health connection – which can be good and bad. It also demonstrates how environmental and social wellness (our homes and relationships) can impact our emotional health. This dovetails with the vibrational energy that Sherri writes about in ME TIME MONDAY. Essentially, our mental and emotional health is tied to the energy we pick up from those closest (literally) to us.
October is also Long-Term Care Planning Month so Sherri pivots into one of the 7 wellness elements from her ME TIME MONDAY book with a look at Financial Wellness. AARP’s recent survey shows solo agers, especially older women, are at great financial risk. Sherri offers some long-term care planning resources to help older adults and family caregivers find out what can help for future financial resiliency.

Sherri also shares her “Self-Care in 7 Minutes” video solutions for busy caregivers which are self-care hacks from her book, ME TIME MONDAY. Here are the October videos:
