A special story on what we don’t want long-term care and end of life to be
When I was a graduate student getting my master’s in gerontology at USC, my professor George Shannon assigned us to read May Sarton’s book, “As We Are Now” which was originally published in 1973. It is a poignant, powerful story that even to this day still haunts me. For anyone working in long-term care or wanting to understand the desperate loneliness of living a life without love, this is one book that you will never forget.
