Employer Wake-Up Call: It’s Time to Become ‘Caring Companies’
Since 2019 much has changed for employees who are also caregiving. Read this updated blog on how employers can become “caring companies”
I am looking forward to seeing the resources to come. After taking in my mother, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s two years ago, I have not found many resources helpful. I am a young caregiver and work fulltime and have found that what was truly needed is a quick “how to” to navigate the system. If I read one more tip or stat for caregivers, I will just cry. I know the stats because I live it everyday. The tips given are just not realistic and do not reflect the emerging needs of so many caregivers navigating a failing health care system or any aging system for that matter. So many of these organizations are fragmented and are tailored to those who have financial resources and family/community support. That is not the reality for the majority of caregivers.
We are struggling to obtain the community support needed without going bankrupt. Medicaid takes months and years to fight in order to gain access to community waiver programs which are just as broken and incompetent as any other system. I had to create my own survivor toolkit after being told, “there is no respite care”, “the system is broken”, “oh no, we don’t provide financial support for day care.” Its a smoke and mirrors society and caregivers are left with developing their own ideas and tools to survive this war we are in. Hope your resources reflect the reality of the caregiving world and goes beyond the Alzheimer’s Association and other agencies that do not provide direct assistance for caregivers.
Resourse page has a date for 2016. But still no resourse list, that I could find anyway. Am I missing something?
I’m in WV and my goal is to eventually have resources available to all in our state. I’ve been a caregiver 4 different times in my life and did it on my own.
I have no idea how many in my city , let alone my state are caregiving. It’s time to help them out.
If you have ideas, resources , etc, that would benefit this cause, I would so appreciate it!
