National Family Caregiver Month, National Family Stories Month, Holiday Travel and Author Elizabeth Winthrop Alsop’s New Book “Daughter of Spies”

Host and Gerontologist, Sherri Snelling, kicks off November National Family Caregiver Month, National Family Stories Month and National Author’s Day (Nov 1) with an interview with special guest, noted author Elizabeth Winthrop Alsop. Her new book, “Daughter of Spies,” is about her caregiving journey and uncovering family secrets. This fascinating story takes us inside the life of famous journalist Stewart Alsop and his beautiful British wife, Tish, during World War II and later Elizabeth’s caregiving for her mother who suffered from alcoholism and dementia. She learns both of her parents were spies during WWII and how that shaped their family life. It is an intriguing read and a fascinating interview. Sherri also writes about Alsop’s new book for PBS Next Avenue – watch for that link to be added!

In Caregiver Wellness News, Sherri talks about the latest report of burnout among employees, especially those who are caregiving. She also shares some of the mental health benefits employers are offering caregiving employees.

Sherri also shares the latest tips and resources on traveling with an older parent or spouse with a chronic disease such as dementia. And she touches upon two great resources in the new trend of virtual travel: Wowzitude and Discover Live.
