Our August episode of “Caregiving Club On Air” celebrates National Wellness Month and the 1-Year Anniversary of my book, “Me Time Monday – The Weekly Wellness Plan to Find Balance and Joy for a Busy Life.”  We also take a look at National Relaxation Day on August 15 with our special guest, Ellen MacKay, co-creator of Yoga4Caregivers. Ellen tells us about her own caregiving experience with her parents and as well as someone recently being cared for and leads us through a very helpful breathing exercise and discusses the importance of yoga and types of yoga caregivers can do in 7 minutes or less.

Caregiver Wellness News

For Caregiver Wellness News, Sherri recognizes National Friendship Day on August 4. Social Wellness is one of the 7 Wellness elements from Sherri’s book, Me Time Monday – The Weekly Wellness Plan to Find Balance and Joy for a Busy Life”. On the podcast, Sherri talks about the recent Comfort Keepers survey for National Day of Joy showing how many adults feel their parent is a best friend and how the U.S. Surgeon General has issued a report calling for warning labels for social media usage given the negative effect on mental health for all ages. In her book, Sherri calls it going from URL to IRL (in real life) relationships which are actually more beneficial for our brains.

For International Dog Day on August 26, Sherri talks about the healing aspect of pet ownership and a reminder of how much our dogs help our health but how we have to be mindful of their health as well. She offers insights into how listeners can join the Dog Aging Project and some recent research from the organization about doggie dementia.

Penny was a big help to Sherri when writing her “Me Time Monday” book and even got a shoutout in the book’s Acknowledgments!

On August 15 we celebrate National Relaxation Day and Sherri shares insights into a recent UCLA study on how Kundalini yoga provided several benefits to cognition and memory for women age 50+ who are at risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease including restoring neural pathways, preventing brain matter decline and reversing aging and inflammation-associated biomarkers — improvements not seen in a group who received standard memory training exercises. Also for RelaxationDay, Sherri talks about the chapter in her “Me Time Monday” book called “Good Vibrations” which is about the science of energy fields – whether it is space or human contact – and how we can adjust our emotional health based on our social contacts.

Well Home Design News

In the Well Home Design News Sherri talks about the latest trends in wellness travel and tourism. Wellness goes beyond facials and yoga to sleep tracking, local rituals and even medical services. In celebration of National Beach Day on August 30 and the Blue Wellness theme of our Me Time Monday Wellness Hack coming up, Sherri shares some wellness hacks on how to bring Blue Wellness Into Your Home.
