January is Financial Wellness Month and I was grateful to recently be involved in two activities that help educate financial advisors about longevity and caregiving – the “Synergize” podcast from Trade PMR with Bill Coppel and Ryan Neal; and my guest column for the Journal of Financial Services Professionals.
I have done a lot of work with the financial services and long-term care insurance industries over the years. The financial toll of caregiving is one of the areas that many families overlook. It is also an opportunity for financial advisors and others to develop the personal relationships and guidance that 60% of caregivers say they want – how to understand, plan for and navigate the costs of care?
Since financial wellness is one of my 7 Wellness Elements from my book, “Me Time Monday,” where caregivers and others can find insights on how to find better life-balance and joy by looking at these 7 important areas of our lives, I was recently involved in two activities to shed light on what I call “Gen C – Generation Caregiver,” also found in my book.
“Synergize” Trade PMR Podcast

A long-time friend, Bill Coppel of Trade PMR, invited me to talk about Gen C with him and his co-host, Ryan Neal, on their “Synergize” podcast for financial advisors. Our insightful discussion includes:
- Why addressing caregiving issues may help advisors build sustainable businesses
- How a holistic approach to caregiving can potentially fit into the role of a financial advisor today
- Practical steps to consider for advisors interested in helping clients with their caregiving journeys
You can find the “Synergize” podcast episode here on Trade PMR’s Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube channels.
Guest Column “Journal of Financial Services Professionals”

For over 75 years, the Journal of Financial Services Professionals has been recognized as one of the most prestigious publications in the financial field.
I was honored to be asked to write a guest column for their January, 2025 issue. Again, my article topic focused on Gen C – Generation caregiver from my book, “Me Time Monday.” This article came about at the request of two wonderful colleagues – John Migliaccio, formerly with MetLife Mature Market Institute and now working on the financial gerontology program at the University of Maryland, and Neal Cutler, Director of the Boettner Institute of Financial Gerontology (who also happened to be one of my USC undergrad professors in political science). John and Neal together have founded the American Institute for Financial Gerontology.
While the article needs a subscription to be accessed, you can find that information here.

You can also check out our “Caregiving Club On Air” podcast interviews (found on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Podcasts, Caregiving Club on YouTube and other channels) with financial experts who understand the needs and are creating tools and programs for family caregivers:
