Wowzitude & World Tourism Day & Healthy Aging Month, National Self-Care Awareness Month & Gratitude Day, World Alzheimer’s Month, Grandparents Day, Senior Romance Scams & Preventing Falls at Home

Sherri Snelling, corporate gerontologist and “Caregiving Club On Air” podcast host, talks to Susan Black, Founder and Chief Wow Engagement Officer for Wowzitude, a virtual travel company catering to older adults. It’s the perfect topic for September’s Healthy Aging Month, World Travel Day on September 27 and World Gratitude Day on September 21 (Susan explains how Wowzitude is based on “wow” and “gratitude.”)

Caregiver Wellness News

In September we celebrate Healthy Aging Month and also recognize September as World Alzheimer’s Month and World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21. In this episode Sherri talks about worldwide stats and latest drug development on dementia including how cases of Alzheimer’s worldwide will almost triple by 2050. Because of the focus on cognitive health and our aging politicians, Sherri provided her insights in this blog, “The Argument About Aging Politicians Asks the Wrong Questions.”

September also marks National Self-Care Awareness Month – a perfect segue to Sherri Snelling’s new book, Me Time Monday – The Weekly Wellness Plan to Find Balance and Joy for a Busy Life. Sherri’s whirlwind book tour has started and she recently reconnected with college sorority sisters over the last 40 years who threw her a celebratory book signing party. (Sherri gives a shoutout to the hostesses, Vicki, Mel, Grace and Kathy and friends who traveled to California for the event from New York (Ali), Connecticut (Karen) and Las Vegas (Louise).

USC AD Pis came together to celebrate the publication of Sherri’s book, “Me Time Monday” at Mel’s beautiful home in Pasadena.

She also shares her thoughts on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11 and highlights her PBS Next Avenue article talking to first responders at Ground Zero who are now suffering from Alzheimer’s and brain health issues, New Studies Find 9/11 Responders May Have Increased Dementia Risk.

In honor of Grandparents Day on September 10, Sherri shares both a podcast episode from “Caregiving Club On Air” on Grandparent Scams and her recent Newsmax TV “Aging in America” segment on Older Adult Romance Scams. She also shares her PBS Next Avenue article and Snug Home blog on the “Coastal Grandmother” Trend.

Listen to Season 2, Episode 13 podcast with Liz Loewy of Eversafe talking about Grandparent Scams and how fraudsters prey on older adults by voice cloning their grandchildren.

Sherri appears regularly on Newsmax TV for the “Aging in America” segments. In this clip, she talks about the increase in romance scams for older adults.

Well Home Design News

September also marks the official beginning of fall on September 23 and National Falls Prevention Week (Sept 18-24) for older adults living at home. Two great “Caregiving Club On Air” podcast interviews talk about how to prevent falls at home, especially for those with dementia or Alzheimer’s, and how to stop deadly stove fires before they start – one of the leading causes of death for older adults living at home and a perfect topic for September Emergency Preparedness Month. We also offer our free public service webinar on “How to Prepare for Natural Disasters and Emergencies with Older Loved Ones.”

In Season 1, Episode 1 of our podcast, George Netscher, founder of Safely You, talks about how his tech solution can help prevent falls for those with dementia who are living at home.

In our Season 2, Ep 10 podcast, Ken Deering of iGuard Home Solutions, explains how to prevent deadline home fires for older adults with an innovative age-tech safety solution.

Me Time Monday Wellness Hack

As always, we end our episode with our Me Time Monday Wellness Hack. This episode we focus on World Gratitude Day (September 21) and the color psychology of orange – the color associated with gratitude from Sherri’s new book, Me Time Monday.
